If you have certificates or credentials you want to list on your resume, where should you list them? The two most common places are:

Both ways of listing certificates are correct, so you can choose whichever one markets you best on paper. Here are a few questions to help you decide:

  • Do you have enough room on your resume to have a separate section for your certifications? If not, list your certifications in your Education section to save space.
  • How relevant are your certifications to your job objective? If they are highly relevant and you want them to stand out, create a separate Certifications section. If your certifications are key qualifiers for the job you seek, consider placing that section near the start of your resume.

Another way to decide what's best for you is to look at how others have presented certifications on their resumes. To see examples of Certification sections, see 7 Examples of Resumes With Certification Sections. To see certifications within the Education sections, keep reading here.
